Horizons Unlimited srl (Bologna - Italy)

Horizons Unlimited srl is a consultancy firm specialised in multimedia applications, marketing and communication services for the Public Administration, small and medium enterprises, libraries, museums and cultural institutions in general.

1993-2006

After one year of technical start-up Horizons has been established in 1993 as university spin-off conceived by Umberto Eco.

In the period 1993-1997 we were focused on multimedia publishing and development. We have edited and developed one of the most important initiative in the multimedia sector in Italy, the cd rom series "Encyclomedia. Guide to the History of European Civilization" directed by Umberto Eco (see the press release).

In the period 1997-2000 we shifted our attention on web applications focussing on the market of local Public Administrations in Italy. In the same period we received fundings for many European Commision projects on new media and Education.

In the period 2001-2006 we have developed a suite of products in the field of Content Management (Horizons Portal Solutions) and Digital Asset Management (Horizons Media Library Solutions).

In 2006 we have started a new area of activities on Open Access Digital Library applications developing a 360 degree suite for oai-pmh data and service providers. We have also published the free www.openarchives.eu portal in collaboration with the University of Illinois OAI-PMH Data Registry.

In 2009 we have launched MediaLibraryOnLine, the first network of public digital libraries in Italy.

Horizons Unlimited is based in Bologna and directed by Dr Giulio Blasi.
